If you really care about your pet you owe it to him to educate yourself on what goes into the pet food he eats daily.  It is important to read and understand the labels on dog food and cat food:

BY-PRODUCTS:  Part of the animal NOT for human consumption.  Can include diseased and contaminated slaughterhouse meats, intestines, bones, chicken heads, duck bills, chicken & turkey feet, feathers, hair, animal road kills, euthanized companion animals and dehydrated garbage, all rendered together!  Those listed as beef, chicken & poultry by-products ARE NOT REQUIRED TO INCLUDE ACTUAL MEAT!

PRESERVATIVES:  Ethoxyquin, BHA and BHT are chemical additives used as preservatives.  Ethoxyquin is regulated as a pesticide and cannot be added to human food.  The average dog (44 lbs) can consume 26 lbs. of preservatives each year!

FILLERS:  Many pet foods contain fillers that have little or no nutritional value ... feathers, soy, cottonseed hulls, wood fibers, corn cobs, peanut hulls, citrus pulp, weeds, straw, chaff and cereal by-products!

The use of low quality products and chemical preservatives may be associated with dry skin, allergic reactions, dental disease, poor health, lack of energy and degenerative organ dysfunction. They can also cause diarrhea, increased flatulence, dull coat, intermittent vomiting or tendency to scratch more often.  LOOK OVER YOUR CURRENT PET FOOD!  SMELL IT! TASTE IT?  WOULD YOU EAT IT?  IF NOT - WHY WOULD YOU FEED IT TO YOUR PET?

There is ample scientific evidence that proper nutrition and correct eating habits can enhance health, performance and longevity.  We are starting to understand that the over-processing and chemical additives which add color and texture can destroy much of the nutritional value of both people food and pet food.

Today, the choice of a nutritionally superior food for pets should be based on an informed understanding and appreciation of ingredient quality and product information.
SOURCE OF GRAINS
Grains are purchased from major commercial suppliers like General Mills - fully tested and re-tested when received.  This testing insures the very best quality and reduces the possibility of toxic molds.

RICE
A combination of brown and white rice; the white rice for digestibility and the brown for its added nutritional value.  A diet product that is 100% brown rice can be somewhat hard for some animals to digest.

WHEAT
Wheat flour is a fine-ground whole wheat grain.  A coarse-ground whole wheat is also added for texture, along with a quality wheat berry.

MILLET
This grain is an excellent source of nutrition for those animals that may have a "gluten intolerance".  This huskless grain is very stable and is highly digestible (95% reported).  Additionally, it is naturally resistant to some bacteria and fungi.  These traits, coupled with excellent caloric qualities and balanced vitamins and nutrients, make millet a balanced, beneficial, all-natural grain.

CORN
Corn is an excellent grain; however, it is more difficult to digest - both by humans and dogs.  Therefore, corn is NOT used as an ingredient in our dog food.  The feline digestive system better utilizes corn, which supplies important dietary benefits to cats and kittens.  Corn is included in the feline formulas.

FLAX
The different proteins in flax provide a high proportion base of unsaturated essential fatty acids and diety fiber.  Flax is recognized for its potential in reducing the risk for some chronic diseases, as well as improving the thickness and sheen of the coat.  It provides a great benefit to oven-baked food by resisting oxidation from the baking process and improving product shelf life.

ORGANIC CHICKEN
It is possible to put one organic chicken in 50 tons of food and legally say we use organic range fed chicken.  Some manufacturers take this option.  While we purchase as much organic chicken as possible, we prefer to more correctly say we use human quality chicken that is hormone free.  We do not purchase chicken from rendering plants.  Like all of our ingredients, we pay a premium price for the very best available.  The meat is cooked in the California plant and ground into a meal for mixing.  We use a special mixing process - different from the general industry, important for the baking process, which requires the small meal for uniform mixing and to make the "biscuit" that is baked.

LAMB
Lamb is range fed.

FISH
Menhaden Fish is a herring-like fish found along the North Atlantic coast of the United States. The flesh is an excellent source of menhaden oil for coat and skin.  Fish is a prime source of a complete protein - it includes all the essential amino acids.  Rich in unsaturated fats (Omega 3 fatty acids), Vitamins A and K, and iodine, calcium, phosphorus, iron, potassium, copper and fluoride.

LECITHIN
Lecithin protects cells from damage caused by oxidation.  Lecithin is largely composed of the B vitamin choline - with linoleic acid and inositol.

COPPER AND IRON
A small amount of copper will improve utilization of iron.  A deficiency of iron causes nutritional anemia in animals.

VITAMINS and MINERALS
Our minerals are chelated: Bonded with amino acids (protein) and highly effective in providing metabolic absorption.  Our products are preserved with a combination of mixed Tocopherols (Vitamin E) and Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C).  No harmful chemicals are used or added to extend shelf life.

PROTEINS
Proteins are organic chemical compounds and a major component of the structure of all living organisms.  Protein functions to build and repair body structure.  A good pet food should contain highly digestible protein sources that provide the essential amino acids in adequate amounts.  Digestible food protein from several sources is more desirable than protein from only one source.

CARBOHYDRATES
Carbohydrates serve primarily as an energy source while giving bulk to the diet.  Plant material is made up of a high percentage of carbohydrates.

FATS
Fats are complex molecules that are broken down by the digestive system into smaller molecules known as fatty acids.  Fat is a concentrated source of energy and works toward making hormones, skin and coat oils, membranes and parts of body cells.
ALL NATURAL INGREDIENTS
Quality ingredients in our canine food and feline food provide for a pet's healthy well-being by helping the pet's body holistically heal itself through healthy nutrition.

All formulas are made from the highest quality ingredients and do not contain low grade meats, grain by-products, color additives or chemical preservatives (BHA, Ethoxyquin or BHT).  The food is naturally preserved with mixed Tocopherols and Ascorbic Acid (Vitamins E and C).  Some authorities indicate that Vitamin C is not required; however, we feel it is very important in supporting vitamin balance and to help handle daily stress and environmental pollution.
